GlaMBIE-2 (2025-2027) aims to update, extend, and improve GlaMBIE-1 in a second main experiment. The second assessment includes two pilot studies: the first will investigate the systematic differences between methods discovered in the first GlaMBIE study; the second will explore the potential for GlaMBIE to address hydrological thematics and serve as a stepping stone for a potential global assessment addressing the impact on both sea-level but also on the water cycle.
By the end of the project, GlaMBIE-2 will provide an updated community estimate of annual glacier mass changes for all 19 glacier regions from 1992 to 2026. In addition, it will provide insights and propose measures to address the apparent bias between CryoSat-2 radar altimetry and DEM differencing and present the methodology and a first set of combined mass change estimates at the glacier scale with higher spatial and temporal resolutions.
