The second phase of the Glacier Mass Balance Intercomparison Exercise (GlaMBIE-2) has officially begun. The project will bring together scientists from around the world to provide the most accurate and consistent picture of global glacier mass loss. GlaMBIE-2 will combine data from a wide range of methods–from field measurements to satellite observations–to produce a global consensus estimate.
Running from 2025 to 2027, GlaMBIE-2 will build on the first phase of the project by:
-
Updating the global record of glacier mass change since 1992
-
Investigating differences between measurement methods
-
Producing higher-resolution results for hydrological applications
The project was officially kicked off on 5 August 2025. Register your interest below and stay tuned for our call for data, which will be sent out later this year.
